Derrick McManus cheated death.

Derrick was a sniper and counter-terrorist operative with Sth Australia Police Special Operations Section STAR Force (Special Tasks And Rescue Force).

Derrick was shot 14 times and lying on the ground with multiple massive life-threatening injuries, including 2 x severed arteries, for 3 hours before he could be rescued. 

Spoiler alert ... he did survive.
